Factors for differences in language use between men and women

Since centuries ago gender-related issues have always been linked to language. It can not be denied that gender differences are very influential in terms of language, while language is the basis of communication. Every day men interact with each other, and in general communication, they do use language. The striking difference between the two is that first, women tend to be more polite in spoken words, while men tend to be rude. Second, women talk to the standard language while men do not. Third, women prefer light topics in conversations such as about fashion, cooking, and things close to their lives whereas men prefer tough topics such as politics, education, and statehood.

Then what are the factors that cause different language use for both? Is that physically or socially? Based on the results of research, men using the left brain to think, while women use both parts of the brain to think, but it does not show the effectiveness in the use of language. There are factors outside the physical that affect the differences in language use between men and women. I would classify that factor into three parts.

First, the difference in psychology. Women have a more subtle feeling than men. They are more sensitive, while men are more logical. Therefore women speak more politely than men, and men speak more harshly than women.

Second, the difference in social status. In the social life, men superior to women. Even in every respect. In the public spaces, men as leaders while women more occupy the second position such as a secretary. Women prefer to share problems and men prefer to provide solutions. That's what causes women to be motivated to reach an equivalent level. One way is to use language. Women are more careful in grammar matters. They are more careful and thinks about the consequences of what they say, whereas men tend to be flexible in using language. In addition, men spend more time in school so that their chances of filling in the larger public space. Therefore men are closer to heavy topics such as politics and government, while women are more preoccupied with their own affairs, so he prefers topics about beauty, fashion, and more.

Third, the difference in cultural background. Lakoff (1975) believes that language differences between men and women are a symptom of cultural problems. It turns out that cultural issues also affect language differences between men and women. Therefore the style of men when performing a different conversation with women, as well as vice versa.

The above three factors are factors that greatly affect the language differences between men and women. Although both are different but not necessarily united and disagreeable in every respect. The two are complementary to each other. By knowing the causal factors, they can understand each other.
